Over Your Dead Body is the English remake of Tommy Wirkola’s The Trip, a film I’d watched back in 2021. I didn’t realise this until I went through the film’s Wiki page, and that honestly counts as a win. I remember enjoying Wirkola’s film a lot, and those were times when new movie releases were scarce. The remake serves it right by roping in well-known faces like Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Timothy Olyphant, Paul Guilfoyle, and Juliette Lewis. Director Jorma Taccone has a “sketch-comedy” background with SNL and The Lonely Island, alongside writers Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney, which pushes the film into a more cartoonish-styled (dark) comedy space. Olyphant, Jardine, and Lewis, especially, are milked for laughs. There’s an odd charm to the pairing of Segel and Weaving too, which is what instantly hooks you into the plot.
