Somewhere in a remote village in North-West China, near the border with Kazakhstan lives a 13-year-old boy Arsin. The school is destroyed and abandoned in his village, so he doesn’t do much, however, his world is so rich and beautiful as are his curiosity and imagination. His uncle taught him about plants before he mysteriously disappeared, so Arsin is absorbed in the world of nature, and so are we when we watch this pure visual pleasure of a film. Arsin meets a Chinese girl his age, they hit it off and spend lots of time together, enjoying the paradise of this place and each other’s existence. Life twists and turns, though; things change, but the beauty of the world remains – this is the wisdom I learned from this film. When I was walking home after watching it, I kept noticing all the details, shapes and colors of everything around me and it brought me into a happy meditative state that I’m still in thanks to this magical film.
